Albemarle Police say they've solved a murder case from 20 years ago. County Police have charged 67-year-old Alvin Lee Morris (pictured) of Lindsay Road in northeastern Albemarle with the June 20th, 1988 shooting death of Roger Lee Shifflett. Shifflett was a worker at the former Southwind Grocery Store. Southwind was a small convenience store and gas station that used to be located at the intersection of Route 20 South and Avon Street Extended. It was closed and torn down several years later. Shifflett was shot to death when he opened the store early that morning in 1988. Alvin Lee Morris, who lives at 1600 Lindsay Road and has a Gordonsville mailing address, is charged with first-degree murder, robbery and use of a firearm in committing a felony. Albemarle Police say the investigation is continuing and the case has been turned over to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. Morris faces a bond hearing Friday in Albemarle General District Court.
